Iowa State holds off Northern Illinois 27-10 (AP)

Alexander Robinson rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns and Iowa State beat Northern Illinois 27-10 Thursday night Austen Arnaud added 265 yards passing and a TD run for the Cyclones (1-0), who raced out to a 17-0 halftime lead. Iowa State's offense stalled much of the second half, but its new-look defense held the Huskies (0-1) to just 249 yards of offense.

Utah beats No. 15 Pittsburgh in OT (AP)

After being unable to hold an 11-point lead in the fourth quarter, Utah's defense redeemed itself in overtime. Utah freshman Brian Blechen intercepted a pass for on the first play of overtime, setting up Joe Phillips for a 21-yard field goal that gave the Utes a 27-24 victory against No. 15 Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

Rutgers starts slowly, defeats Norfolk State 31-0 (AP)

Joe Martinek carried 20 times for 109 yards and a touchdown and Tom Savage completed 10 of 19 passes for 148 yards and a score, leading Rutgers to a 31-0 rout of Norfolk State in both schools' season opener on Thursday night. Martinek, a junior tailback, surpassed 100 yards for the fifth time in his career.

Nebraska LB Compton injures foot (AP)

Nebraska linebacker Will Compton will likely miss Saturday's opener against Western Kentucky with a foot injury. Coach Bo Pelini says Compton was injured during practice but did not give details of the injury. Last month, Nebraska lost linebacker Sean Fisher for the year with a broken leg. Fisher and Compton were expected to compete for playing time this year.

Nike to alter uniform ad that upset mine activists (AP)
