Nine of the 22 starters from last year’s team are gone.
What we saw last Friday was the beginning of a youth movement, a purging of 30-something-year-old players with an eye toward the future. The team parted ways with quarterback Jake Delhomme, defensive tackles Damione Lewis and Maake Kemoeatu and linebackers Na’il Diggs and Landon Johnson and figure to replace them with younger players. A few days later, they dumped 33-year-old fullback Brad Hoover, leaving them with only three players older than 30 and two of those are kickers. Steve Smith, 30, is the only positional player who isn’t in his twenties.
It was the result of self-scouting and a self-realization that they were beginning to get a little old at some positions.

The Carolina Panthers are raising ticket prices again even as they slash payroll. A team spokesman says prices for each ticket will go up between $1 and $9 per game next season. Friday's move comes as the Panthers have spent the offseason releasing numerous veterans with higher salaries.

Ex-Cleveland Browns Quarterback Derek Anderson is searching for a new home and Carolina might just be the perfect fit.
Last season Anderson struggled, posting a 42.1 quarterback rating and was benched twice in favor of Brady Quinn.
It’s a season that made it easy to forget Anderson was a Pro Bowler only three years ago.
In 2007, under the guidance of former Browns assistant coach and current Panthers offensive coordinator, Jeff Davidson, Anderson threw for over 3,700 yards, with 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
He was selected to his first Pro Bowl and touted as one of the league’s up-and-coming quarterbacks.
Now, three years later and at 26-years-old, Anderson can still play and it’s not inconceivable to think he can resurrect his career.
All Anderson may need is just a new opportunity and the magic of an old coach. All of which he can find in Carolina.
